Hi all, Have a Macbook 4,1 (Early 2008), 10.5.6 (Leopard), 4 gb RAM, and I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the OS to something more modern and supported, i.e. If so, thoughts on how to obtain the new OS, and install it? The latest version of OS X that you can get running on a MacBook 4,1 (Early 2008 model) is Mac OS X 10.7.5. El Capitan will not run on the non-Aluminium 2008 models (Early or Late). I have verified this information against the Mactracker app (not affiliated with Mactracker in any way).
Easily check which versions of mac OS, iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS are compatible with your Mac model or iDevice. Guide includes OS X 10.8.x to macOS 11.0.x. MacBook 4,1; Early 2008; 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM; 160 GB internal HD; 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Intel GMA X3100 144 MB; 64-bit EFI and processor; Current OS is Mac OS X 10.7.2 (11C74) And one more thing: I don't want to give up trying. I have an old black macbook 4.1. The version of the OS is MacOS X 10.5.8. I already installed ubuntu and i erased the macos part. So i want to install windows 10 (or windows 8,7 ) and delete all the other part. I don't have a CD to install windows but i have an USB key. So can someone help me to install windows 10 from ubuntu on my mac?
When you upgrade to macOS Catalina, you get more of everything you love about Mac. Experience dedicated apps for music, TV, and podcasts. Smart new features in the apps you use every day. And Sidecar, which lets you use iPad as a second Mac display. Best of all, upgrading is free and easy.
Chances are, your Mac can run macOS Catalina.
Mac computers with Metal-capable graphics processors (GPUs) can upgrade to macOS Catalina.
Make sure you're ready to upgrade.
Before you upgrade, we recommend that you back up your Mac. Then, if your Mac is running OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later, you can upgrade directly to macOS Catalina.
Upgrading is free. And easier than you think.
Upgrading from macOS Mojave?
Go to Software Update in System Preferences to find the macOS Catalina upgrade. Click Upgrade Now and follow the onscreen instructions to begin your upgrade. If you don't have broadband access, you can upgrade your Mac at any Apple Store.
Upgrading from an older version of macOS?
If you're running High Sierra (10.13), Sierra (10.12), or El Capitan (10.11), upgrade to macOS Catalina from the App Store. If you're running Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8), you will need to upgrade to El Capitan (10.11) first. If you don't have broadband access, you can upgrade your Mac at any Apple Store.
